Nairobi, 30 March 2009 - The Billion Tree
Campaign has passed the three billion planted tree
mark following a confirmation from the
Government of Turkey that it planted over 300
million trees in 2008. |

The Plant for the Planet: Billion Tree Campaign wins a UN 21 Award
As of 17 July 2008 - 3.75 billion tree-planting pledges and 2.25 billion planted trees
were registered on the UNEP database. Citizens in 165 countries are participating in
the UNEP-led global tree-planting efforts. |

China pledges to plant 1.5 million trees
Nairobi, 26 April 2008 - The Chairman of the Chinese National Committee of the
People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Mr. Jia Qinglin visited the United
Nations Headquarters in Nairobi (UNON) on the last day of his three-day visit to Kenya.
It was almost one year to the date when Chinese President Hu Jintao visited the UN in
Nairobi. |

The Billion Tree Campaign exceeds half way mark
Tree-planting pledges from around the world in support of the Billion Tree Campaign
now total 562,769,095 trees. Although the campaign only started in January, over 50% of
the target has been reached, following a pledge of 250 million trees by the Ministry of
Environment and Natural Resources of Mexico.
Over one million trees have also been planted
worldwide. |
